Additional Information:
During the war, Jeanne Coppel did not have access to the materials required for her paintings and this initial need inspired her to develop a practice in collages. Coppel wrote that collages could retain the artist’s anonymity, unlike a brush, which always betrays the artist’s personal hand. This freedom of anonymity continued to draw her back to collages after the war.
