Quad Fine Art is delighted to be exhibiting at the British Art Fair at the Saatchi Gallery, 26-29 September 2024. This will be the first time that Quad Fine Art participates in British Art Fair and you will find us at Stand 22.
For British Art Fair we have selected exciting examples of Postwar British Abstraction featuring important artists including Ben Nicholson, Terry Frost, Richard Smith, Adrian Heath, Sandra Blow, Alexander MacKenzie, George Dannatt and others.
Many of the works that we are exhibiting are new acquisitions. Particularly exciting are two sculptures, one by George Dannatt and another by Tommy Rowe, both were part of the George and Ann Dannatt Collection and come from the George Dannatt Estate. Tommy Rowe used to be the assistant to Denis Mitchell and later Barbara Hepworth, George Dannatt purchased this sculpture for his collection at the Penwith Gallery in St Ives. The George Dannatt sculpture is a construction made from painted wood and a metal cylinder. Created in 1974, it is a rare three-dimensional free-standing work by George Dannatt. The idea of looking through and seeing past a circular opening is something that Dannatt also explores in his photography. Both of these sculptures will be showcased under a work on paper by George Dannatt and a Terry Frost concertina collage.
We are particularly excited to exhibit together two examples of Richard Smith’s work from the 1980s, a work on paper and a large painting on canvas. These works show the artist’s exploration of dimension and depth but now on flat supports as opposed to his three-dimensional canvas structures of the 1960s and constructed “kite” paintings of the 1970s.
A list of works is available upon request.
